Photographing hooves

Take photos inside the app so they attach to the right hoof, and mark what matters while you still remember why.

A photo taken with the phone’s normal camera lands in the camera roll among everything else and loses its connection to the horse the same day. Taken inside the app, the app knows which hoof it belongs to.

Take the photo in the app

Open the assessment, go to the hoof you are working on, and photograph from there. The image is attached to that hoof on that visit.

The camera in the app behaves like the phone’s: tap where you want it to focus, pinch to zoom, and turn on the light when the stable is dark. Stable lighting is rarely on your side.

Mark it while you remember why

Straight after the shot you can draw on it to mark a toe angle, a crack or the edge you want to compare against next time. The marking is stored as its own layer on top of the photo, so the original is untouched and the marking can be changed later.

It is worth doing on the spot. In eight weeks you will remember that the photo mattered but not why.

General visit photos

Not every image belongs to a single hoof. A shot of the whole horse, or of the ground it lives on, can be saved as a general visit photo. If you have attached an image to the wrong hoof, it can be moved.

Photos upload separately

Photos are large, so they go up in their own queue after the assessment has synced. That is why the sync sheet can say images are still on their way when everything else is done. On mobile data it can take a while, and it all stays on the phone in the meantime.
