Stables have thick walls and yards are where they are. The app is built on the assumption that this is the normal state of affairs rather than an exception to handle.
Everything is written locally first
Every assessment, photo, client and booking is saved to the phone the moment you write it. Everything is encrypted, in a database only your phone can read. A connection is never needed to work. It is only needed for what you wrote to travel onwards to the server.
It also means you never have to think about saving before you lose signal. There is no unsaved state.
The sync catches up by itself
When the phone has a connection again, everything waiting is sent, in the right order. You do not have to start anything. If you move in and out of coverage all day, the app keeps retrying until it gets through.
Where to see the state
The cloud icon at the top of the app is the whole truth:
- Everything is synced. Nothing is waiting, and phone and server agree.
- Photos are on their way. The assessments have gone up but images are still uploading. Photos are large and take longer.
- You are offline. Nothing is moving right now, but everything is stored and will be sent when the network returns.
Tap the icon for the details, and to start a sync run by hand if you want to watch it go.
Before you put the phone away
Two moments deserve a glance at the icon: before you switch phones, and before you wipe local data. In both cases you want to see that everything is synced first. What exists only on the phone exists only there.
If something gets stuck
Some failures are not solved by trying again: a photo that is too large, or a session that expired. Those stop and show up in the sync sheet rather than queueing forever. If you cannot get past it, write to support@hoofspectrum.com and describe what it says.
