Getting started

Getting started with HoofSpectrum

From a freshly installed app to your first saved assessment, step by step.

Help center › Getting started

This guide takes you from an installed app to a saved assessment. Allow ten minutes, and do it at home with a connection rather than the first time you are standing in a stable.

Your account

While we test, we create the account for you when you join as a tester, and you get the sign-in details from us. Sign in to the app with them. You can change the password in the app whenever you like.

The first time you sign in, you accept three documents: the privacy policy, the terms of service and the data processing agreement. The last one is what makes you the controller of your clients’ personal data and us the processor. It is worth reading if you run your own practice.

Fill in your profile

The first time you sign in, the app asks for your name and the country you work in. The country drives date formats, language and how payment is handled, so it cannot be skipped.

Add your first client and horse

Under Clients, add the owner: name, email and phone. The email is used for booking confirmations and for the report after a visit, so it is worth getting right.

Each client can have several horses. Add the horse with its name, breed and age. Anything you do not know can be filled in later.

Book a visit

Under Calendar, pick a time and attach it to the client and one or more horses. The client gets a confirmation by email automatically.

Make the assessment

Open the booking and start an assessment. You work through one hoof at a time and score each one. If the horse has been assessed before, its page shows how it has developed over earlier visits. That is the whole point of keeping the record in the app rather than in a folder.

Take photos from inside the assessment and they attach to the right hoof. If you want to mark an angle or a crack, draw on the photo while you still remember why.

Check that everything is saved

Everything you write is saved to the phone first, encrypted, and synced once there is a connection. The cloud icon at the top of the app shows the state: if something is still waiting to go up, it says so, with a count.

Before you put the phone away for the day, or switch phones, it is worth checking that the icon says everything is synced.

What happens next

The assessment can become a PDF emailed to the client with your photos and your recommendations. Read on in the guide about reports, and in the guide about working without coverage if you often work where the signal stops.
